Climbing Wall Award (CWA)

Mountain Training Board Approved Provider

The Climbing Wall Award (CWA) is still a relatively new award, launched by Mountain Leader Training in 2008. It is the outcome of considerable consultation with voluntary youth organizations, the education sector and the climbing community.

There is an additional module in supervising abseiling from artificial structures.

The Climbing Wall Award (CWA) will appeal to teachers, youth leaders, scout and Duke of Edinburgh Award supervisors who have access to a climbing wall or artificial climbing/abseiling structure.

The Climbing Wall Award (CWA) covers the skills needed to introduce and supervise novice climbers on typical top roping and bouldering climbing walls.

Climbing Wall Lead Award (CWLA)

If you already hold the Climbing Wall Award (CWA) or the Single Pitch Award (SPA) and you want to teach lead climbing on artificial walls then the Climbing Wall Lead Award (CWLA) is for you.

The Climbing Wall Lead Award (CWLA) was launched by The Mountain Leader Training Board in 2010 and covers the skills needed to teach lead climbing on indoor and outdoor artificial walls.

You must have led at least 50 climbs including some at 6a and logged sessions as a Single Pitch Award and/or Climbing Wall Award holder.

You must apply to the MLTB with a non refundable application fee, and be accepted before you can train for the Climbing Wall Lead Award (CWLA)
